In a nutshell

In a nutshell, the Learning-to-Learn Differently Project (LLDP) is a teacher-guided, yet child and parent focused program that will help parents understand and reinforce their children's learning styles and strengths and provides new ways for parents to help their children succeed in school and experience the joy of learning!

LLDP builds the skills that parents need to effectively encourage emerging literacy and numeracy skills in their young children using trained volunteers. Targeting SK and Grade One children, struggling with the curriculum, volunteers coach parents in recognizing and reinforcing the tactile and kinesthetic learning strengths natural to children aged 5-6. Volunteers meet with parents and children once or twice a week to work on key skill areas identified by the child's teacher as benefiting from further support.

Learning to Learn Differently – we are just starting up this new program that targets SK and Grade One students who are struggling with the curriculum. The program matches volunteer tutors with students who have been identified and referred by their teachers. The tutoring takes place once or twice a week for one hour and includes the parents. Tutors work with the children to assist them in gaining skills in areas identified by the student’s teacher. This program is funded by, the Government of Ontario through the Ontario Early Years initiative. Contact: Carolyn Elzinga for more information. Our commitment is to help 25 children in year one and 40 children in years 2 and 3. We have already reached received referrals for 25 children and will accept more as more tutors are recruited. This program runs throughout Lambton County and there is no cost associated with the program.
